Marcia and Fred Altman Career Planning and Exploration Program

The newly redesigned Altman Career Planning and Career Exploration Programs consists of two different virtual courses.

The 4-week virtual career course was developed and designed to provide at risk middle school student (ages 12 – 16) career exploration options, a process of building self-awareness, learning about potential careers, and the importance of staying in school. We believe this program engages middle school students at a time when they are at a higher risk for disengaging from learning due to challenges in forming identity, coping with puberty, and navigating new environments. It is the perfect time to assist these students to learn about careers and develop skills such as problem solving, critical thinking and teamwork through career exploration activities. The goal of this innovative approach is to assist these students in becoming more self-aware of their decisions, acknowledge their skills and abilities, and support them in breaking their current cycle of poverty and reduce the rate of re-offenders in the court system.

The 8-week virtual career course was developed and designed to provide career navigation and career readiness options to at-risk teens and young adults involved in the legal court system. We believe this program is vital to promoting career literacy with these at-risk students. The goal of this innovative approach is to improve the lives of these students. By helping them become more self-aware of their decisions, skills and abilities, this program will support them in breaking their current cycle of poverty and reduce the rate of re-offenders in the court system.
